Fire/rescue crews responded to a 5:09 a.m. alarm Sunday (Jan 12) to 16-1451 Ope‘a Pe‘a Street in Hawaiian Acres for a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a 900 square foot building engulfed in flames with live power lines down on the ground.
The owners of the home, an elderly couple, were able to escape the blaze, were treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to receive medical attention.
Crews were able to have the fire under control by 5:40 a.m. and out by 7 a.m. while the roadway was blocked for emergency crews to work.
The home was reported to be a total loss at $105,000 and a pick-up truck also sustained damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
